Estimation Basics
Our OD software can process many measurement types, including GPS, radar and optical measurements. Estimation methods include both batch lease squares and sequential filtering. Probabilistic observation association and initial orbit determination algorithms are available as part of the SpaceNav software. SpaceNav currently performs orbit determination leveraging many different commercial and government sensors.
Bias and Accuracy
SpaceNav’s orbit determination software performs (per pass) sensor bias analysis and accuracy analysis to determine mission tasking requirements. We continuously monitor of a set of calibration satellites to determine changes in the various sensors. Automated changes to current sensor tasking levels are identified for high-risk or other SSA-driven events. We generate changes in orbit accuracy based on changes to tasking and scheduling.
Special Operations
SpaceNav’s approach to re-entry assessment is to perform a Monte Carlo-based simulation to determine where and when re-entry would occur given different atmospheric conditions and drag profiles. Using a precision vector (from the USAF or equivalent source), we perform long-term state and covariance propagation, varying the atmospheric density and affective drag area for high area to mass (and tumbling) objects. Our software then provides a statistical summary of the simulation.
